Katy Perry Shocks: Exits American Idol Judgeship After Seven Season Stint!
Katy Perry announced her departure from American Idol after serving as a judge for seven seasons on the popular talent show. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the 39-year-old singer expressed that this season would likely be her last, citing a desire to explore the world and potentially release new music.
Having joined the ABC show in 2018, Perry revealed her decision when asked by Jimmy Kimmel about her future with American Idol, stating that while the show had connected her with the heart of America, she felt the need to march to her own beat and experience life beyond the judging panel. Despite her departure, Perry didn't completely close the door on returning one day, saying, "Maybe I'll come back if they have me one day."
Perry shared insights about her co-judges' reactions to her news, hinting at plans for the year ahead and creating space for new endeavors. Reflecting on her experiences, she recounted memorable moments, including performing for King Charles III and navigating the intricacies of the Coronation Concert and Service.
Acknowledging her rise to fame with hits like "I Kissed A Girl" in 2008 and her recent album "Smile" released in 2020, Perry's tenure on American Idol wasn't without controversy. She faced criticism for remarks and actions on the show, including allegations of "mom shaming" and discomfort expressed by contestants.
Perry's departure from American Idol marks a new chapter in her career, alongside her ventures in music, performance, and family life with husband Orlando Bloom and their daughter Daisy Dove.
