Devonshire Day Nursery 'Erupts'

At Devonshire Day Nursery in Chiswick, children embarked on an engaging journey of discovery with the guidance of 'Science Sid,' the alter-ego of Nursery Practitioner Alex Girvan and Team Leader Charlie Fallon.

This dynamic duo, resembling expert professors, conducted weekly masterclasses on STEM subjects—Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths. These sessions, filled with hands-on activities, aimed to ignite the children's passion for these fields and enhance their understanding of fundamental concepts.

In a recent adventure, Science Sid took the children to a local supermarket, where they used clipboards and visual prompts to gather supplies for creating an erupting volcano. Utilizing the self-checkout, they purchased the items and returned to the nursery with baskets filled not only with volcano ingredients but also materials for a healthy cooking activity later in the week.

Back at the nursery, the children exhibited their creativity by constructing a volcano from various materials. They eagerly mixed bicarbonate of soda, vinegar, and food colouring to produce lava, witnessing the spectacular eruption. Devonshire Day Nursery Manager, Emmy Avery, expressed gratitude for the dedicated team of practitioners who fostered these enriching learning experiences. She hopes that such activities will continue to inspire the children's passion, providing ongoing support within the nursery.
