Ex-Marine has Prosthetic Limbs Stolen at Chiswick Hotel

A former serviceman, Mark Ormrod MBE, who is a triple amputee, woke up to a distressing discovery as his prosthetic legs were stolen while he was staying at a Premier Inn. Mark lost both legs and his right arm in 2007 when he stepped on an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) while serving in the Royal Marines in Afghanistan.

Despite having three cameras pointed at his car in the Chiswick hotel car park, Mark alleges that security claimed they couldn't detect any activity. The thieves also took his jiu-jitsu Gi and gym clothes.

Mark shared footage of the break-in on social media, expressing his frustration: "Not the best start to my day!!! Had my car broken into last night." He explained that the stolen items included bags with gym clothes and his jiu-jitsu Gi, but notably, the thieves took a set of his prosthetic legs. Mark criticized the hotel's security, suggesting a need to reposition the cameras.

In his post, he remarked on the disheartening aspect of someone breaking into a car parked in a disabled space and stealing essential equipment for independent living without any regard.

Premier Inn is currently investigating the incident, according to reports from the BBC.

Mark Ormrod, an Invictus Games gold medalist, initially had reservations about disabled sports being patronizing but went on to win seven medals at the 2018 games, four of which were gold. Despite residing in Plymouth with his wife Becky and having a daughter from a previous relationship, the recent incident has brought attention to the vulnerability of disabled individuals and the importance of securing their essential equipment.
