Explore The Chiswick House Kitchen Garden for Free this March

Chiswick House and Gardens Trust is thrilled to extend an invitation for complimentary entry to their flourishing Kitchen Garden, commencing from March 28th this year. Enthusiastic visitors will have the opportunity to meander through the historic 17th-century walled garden at no cost, enjoying this delightful experience on Thursdays through Sundays until October 27th, 2024.

The Kitchen Garden, meticulously cultivated by the dedicated gardening team, showcases a remarkable diversity of over 200 varieties of fruits, vegetables, flowers, and herbs, ranging from the delicate flavors of asparagus and edible flowers to the vibrant hues of pumpkins and dahlias.

Rosie Fyles, the Head of Gardens, passionately shares, "Our devoted gardening team and volunteers invest tremendous effort into nurturing this bountiful space, yet many visitors to the grounds remain undiscovered to this hidden gem. For over 300 years, this walled garden has offered visitors beauty, pleasure, and connection, and it's been a personal goal to share this unique space more widely."

Notably, in 2023, the Kitchen Garden made a substantial impact by donating over a tonne of nutritious produce. This generous contribution translated into more than 2600 meals for charities dedicated to addressing local food poverty, such as The Felix Project and Surplus to Supper.

However, beyond its role as a productive growing space, the Kitchen Garden serves as a vital community hub and a tranquil haven. In response to common challenges faced across the borough, the garden warmly welcomes various community groups and schools from Hounslow, engaging in projects that combat issues like isolation, loneliness, and limited access to nature.

With the Conservatory now regretfully closed to the public due to its increasingly fragile state, access to the Kitchen Garden remains accessible through the newly-named Gardeners' Gate, conveniently located on the path between the Conservatory and the Rosary.

Chiswick House aspires that by offering complimentary entry to the Kitchen Garden, visitors will not only revel in the accomplishments of their green-fingered gardeners, volunteers, and community groups but also witness firsthand the positive impact this space has on the lives of the people of Hounslow.
