Chiswick Local David Tennant to Host BAFTAs 2024

The host for next month's Bafta Film Awards has been announced as David Tennant, renowned for his role in Doctor Who. Marking his inaugural stint as the host of this esteemed event, the ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Royal Festival Hall in London's Southbank Centre. David Tennant, known for his work in TV series like Broadchurch and Good Omens, recently reprised his role in Doctor Who for the show's 60th anniversary episodes.

Taking the reins from last year's host, Richard E Grant, Tennant expressed his delight at being chosen for the role. The 2024 Bafta Film Awards will occur on 18 February and will be broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Tennant, aged 52, shared his excitement, stating, "I am delighted to have been asked to host the EE Bafta Film Awards and help celebrate the very best of this year's films and the many brilliant people who bring them to life." In the 60th-anniversary episode of Doctor Who, he starred alongside Catherine Tate, reprising her role as Donna Noble, a companion of the 10th Doctor.

Bafta's CEO, Jane Millichip, expressed the organization's enthusiasm for Tennant's appointment, describing him as "deservedly beloved" by both British and international audiences. She anticipates that his warmth, charm, and mischievous wit will make the show a must-watch event.

The longlists for the Bafta Film Awards across 24 categories have been unveiled. Notable films such as Greta Gerwig's Barbie, Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, and Martin Scorsese's Killers Of The Flower Moon lead in 15 categories. These films, along with others like Saltburn, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, and Poor Things, are contenders for awards in best film, director, and screenplay categories.

In the Outstanding British film category, 15 films, including Saltburn, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, and Poor Things, have made the cut. Lily Gladstone and Bradley Cooper are recognized in the leading actress and leading actor categories, respectively, for their outstanding performances in Killers of the Flower Moon and Maestro.
