QPR Defender Jimmy Dunne Champions Blood Cancer Charity DKMS Through Inspiring Visit

On Thursday, January 18th, QPR's standout defender, Jimmy Dunne, made a notable visit to a charity based in Chiswick to gain insights into its operations.

Jimmy, an Irish U-21 international, along with his club, has been pivotal in supporting DKMS, situated in Horticultural Place. The organization's primary goal is to combat blood cancer by encouraging more individuals to register as potential stem cell donors.

In December, the Championship club honored DKMS as their official 'match day partners' during a home game at Loftus Road stadium, where they secured a much-needed victory.

During his visit to the DKMS offices, Jimmy learned that someone in the UK is diagnosed with blood cancer every twenty minutes. He demonstrated the simplicity of signing up, which involves completing a mouth swab kit sent out free of charge by DKMS.

Jimmy also had the opportunity to meet Peter McCleave, who requires a stem cell transplant due to a diagnosis of myeloma. Peter has been actively campaigning to raise awareness about the need for more stem cell donors, particularly from minority ethnic backgrounds.

Reflecting on his experience, Jimmy remarked, "Today has been truly enlightening, witnessing the immense effort dedicated to giving individuals a second chance at life. It certainly puts football into perspective for me."

DKMS spokesperson Deborah Hyde expressed admiration for Jimmy's interest in their cause and his dedication to ensuring more individuals with blood cancer receive the necessary stem cell transplants. Together, they strive to combat blood cancer.

Registering with DKMS as a potential stem cell donor is straightforward and can be done at dkms.org.uk. Individuals aged 17 to 55 in good health can request a mouth swab kit, complete it at home, and return it to DKMS for processing.
