Hammersmith & Fulham Holocaust Memorial Day Event

Hammersmith & Fulham Council are marking Holocaust Memorial Day on January 31st at Riverside Studios, where victims of genocides will be honored.

The event will featured moving testimonies from survivors, including Sandra Miller, daughter of a Holocaust survivor, who will share her mother's harrowing experiences. Marie Chantal Uwamahoro and Eric Murangwa Eugène, MBE, survivors of the 1994 Rwanda genocide, will recount their stories of resilience and survival.

Marie, born into the only Tutsi family in her village, endured racism and persecution, ultimately finding refuge thanks to the kindness of a Hutu neighbor. Eric, a professional Tutsi footballer, sought sanctuary amidst the chaos, sheltered by teammates and later surviving the horrors of Hotel des Mille Collines.

Cllr Patricia Quigley, Mayor of H&F, has emphasized the borough's commitment to inclusivity and condemned all forms of discrimination. "Hatred and persecution should not be tolerated," she asserted, calling for a more compassionate society.

King Charles, in a statement, underscored the importance of remembrance and learning from past atrocities, urging unity and vigilance against hatred and bigotry.

The memorial morning at Riverside Studios will serve as a poignant reminder of the fragility of freedom and the imperative to uphold human dignity.

Attendees, representing diverse communities, will pay tribute to the victims and reaffirmed their commitment to a future free from intolerance and hatred.
